Couch Slug Consulting, Inc. was founded in 1993 by Chris Kearney, as a part-time technical writing business. However, from the beginning, Couch Slug offered much more than technical writing services.
Couch Slug Consulting's first project was for the Hartford Steam Boiler Inspection and Insurance company. During the Autumn of 1993, Jack Jones, a Hartford inspector, came to Chris Kearney with photographs of a damaged turbine. The photographs were digitally enhanced and retouched. In the end, Couch Slug Consulting provided full color prints and an electronic file to be placed directly in Jones' report.
Before long, more projects appeared for Couch Slug. In late 1995, a small startup company known as Innovative Knowledge Products (KnowDev) contacted Couch Slug to create an online help system. It was a small project, but because iKP's owners liked Couch Slug's quality, price, and professionalism, Couch Slug was awarded additional iKP projects, including a User's Guide, Developer's Guide, an Administrator's Manual, and a web site. Then, in late 1996, iKP commissioned Couch Slug to develop a multimedia product demo for their
flagship product, KnowDev. This was enough work to launch Couch Slug as a full-time business.
What started as a side business to indulge Kearney's interests (i.e., Photoshop and Macromedia Director) grew into a full-time operation. By 1997, Couch Slug became a full time business. The business has grown one customer at a time. Referral by referral. Barring this web site, our advertising is word of mouth. We don't have a Sales force. We don't market. We don't join lists or professional organizations to gain business. We just do our best. And it's working. Today, we serve clients in three states and two countries.
